Pentylene Glycol

Polyol humectant at 1-3%; low irritancy, suitable for sensitive skin

Alcohol

Ethanol for solubility/drying at 5-15%; high conc. is drying/irritating, avoid lip/eye, low residue, balance with humectants.

Caprylic/Capric Triglyceride

Light occlusive and solvent at 1–10%; non-greasy feel, suitable for oily and combination skin

글리세린

Workhorse humectant at 3–10%; tacky at high levels, pair with occlusives

Galactoarabinan

Gum arabic polysaccharide; film-forming humectant; highly soluble.

Urea

Potent humectant and keratolytic, >10% has exfoliating effect; stinging sensation at high levels, sensitive skin caution

Sodium Salicylate

Preservative (V/3 limit) and keratolytic aid; caution for sensitive skin and pregnancy.

Plantago Lanceolata Leaf Extract

Plantain leaf extract for antimicrobial and astringent use; plant extract with variable potency, patch test for sensitive skin.

Mahonia Aquifolium Root Extract

Phytosterols

Plant sterol mix for skin barrier repair and soothing; plant-derived, no reported sensitization.

Tocopherol

Natural antioxidant (vitamin E) at 0.1–1%; prone to oxidation, store protected from light

Ascorbyl Palmitate

Ascorbyl palmitate, lipophilic Vit C ester, antioxidant; oxidizes, needs light/air protection.

Ascorbic Acid

Vitamin C, potent antioxidant requiring acidic environment for stability; oxidizes and discolors easily, needs light and air protection, concentration 1-10%, pure L-ascorbic acid is more irritating.

Olea Europaea Fruit Oil

Olive oil, rich in squalene and oleic acid; moderate comedogenicity, caution for oily skin.

Olus Oil

Squalane derivative or plant oil for emollience; specify exact source

Cocos Nucifera Oil

Occlusive moisturizing oil at 1–10%; highly comedogenic, use with caution for oily skin.

Lecithin

Phospholipid emulsifier at 1-5%; biocompatible, moisturizing/antioxidant, prone to oxidation (add TBHQ), mild for sensitive skin.

Hydrogenated Lecithin

Emulsifier from lecithin; stable, used in powder emulsions

Persea Gratissima Oil

Avocado oil rich in fatty acids and vitamin E; occlusive moisturizer, use with caution on oily skin.

Olea Europaea Oil Unsaponifiables

Olive oil unsaponifiables; rich in squalene and vitamin E. Use at 1-2% for repair; stable.

Acrylates/C10-30 Alkyl Acrylate Crosspolymer

Crosspolymer for thickening/film; needs neutralization to pH 7-8 to hydrate, check ion strength.

Xanthan Gum

Natural thickener at 0.1–1%; provides gel texture, pH-stable, requires full hydration

Hydroxypropyl Starch Phosphate

Thickener and bulking agent for creams; 1-5%, avoid cationic systems

Sodium Carbomer

Carbomer sodium, strong gelling agent; requires neutralization, high thickening power, may interact with cationic actives.

Citric Acid

Buffer and chelator at 0.1–2%; adjusts pH, may irritate sensitive skin at low pH
